THE STORY OF GIANNETTOLA
Our
grandfather
Riccardo,
heart
of
a
lion,
great
pioneer
of
agriculture,
loved
the
land
more
than
his
own
life.
When
he
went
to
the
camp,
in
1944,
and
saw
it
strewn
with
the
horrors
of
war,
he
did
not
hesitate
to
go
and
mine
that
land
battered
by
bombs
and soldiers who had lost their lives in the last battle under a ruin gripped by brambles.
It
was
so
dramatically
that
for
him,
insightful
and
strong-willed,
rescuing
it
from
destruction
and
death,
he
began
the
adventure
of
reclaiming
a
soil
that
would
soon
flourish
with
man's
work:
here
is
the
plow
tilling
the
earth
to
give
birth
to
the
blondes swaying in the wind, and for the vineyard that saw a young branch marry the earth every day.
Giannettola
is
now
redeemed,
and
for
more
than
seventy
years
she
has
been
the
one
who,
like
a
fairy
tale,
speaks
to
us
of
the
perennial
rebirth
of
life.
What
a
God,
bless
her
fruitful
fruit!
A
few
years
later,
when
his
lands
were
all
lush
and
the
grapes
overflowed
from
the
branches,
his
grandfather
decided
to
have
a
bizarre
white
construction
built
that
rose
upwards,
and
which
we
all
called
"the
tower".
It
was
for
him
like
an
observatory
from
the
sky,
to
extend
the
eye
beyond
his
possessions
to
the
horizon
of
the
sea.
For
all
those
who
visited
it,
family
and
friends,
it
has
always
remained
a
meeting
point
of
satisfaction,
on
which
you
climbed
out
of
breath
for
its
steep
steps,
and
a
coveted
destination
to
go
and
breathe
the
breeze
of
the
wind
and
the
sunsets
that
Giannettola
offers
from
up
there
to
its
visitors
at
360
degrees
or
the
fragrant
dawn
glow
for
the
bravest
early
risers.
Our
Turret,
a
symbol
of
the
elevation
of
the
soul
on
our
beloved
lands,
will
always
remain
a
myth
and
a
gentle
fantasy with a slightly legendary flavor.
